Chapter 8

. And as he came down from the mountain, great crowds gathered around him

. And a leper now came and bowed to him in homage, and said: Lord, if you will it, you can cure me

. And Jesus stretched forth his hand, touched him, and said: I will it: be healed. And instantly his leprosy was healed

And Jesus said to him, See that you tell no man, but go and show yourself to the priests, and present an offering as Moses prescribed, as evidence for them

, And when Jesus had entered into Capernaum, a centurion came to him, and pleaded with him

. and said: Sir, my servant-boy lays at home and is paralyzed, and in great pain

. Jesus said to him, I will come myself and heal him

. The centurion replied, and said: Sir, I am not worthy that you should come under my roof: just give the word and my servant-boy will be healed
For I also am a man with authority, and there are soldiers under me, and if I say to this one, Go, and he goes; and to another, Come, and he comes; and to my servant, Do this, and he does it
And when Jesus heard him, he admired it; and he said to those following him, Truly I say to you, nowhere in Israel have I found faith like this
; And I say to you, that many will come from the east, and west, to take their places with Abraham and Isaac and Jacob, in the Realm of Heaven
. but the heirs of the kingdom will be turned out into the darkness, where there will be weeping and grinding of teeth
. And Jesus said to the centurion. Go back, then; as you have believed, so be it. And his servant was cured that moment
. And Jesus came to the house of Simon and saw his mother-in-law in bed from a fever
. And he touched her hand, and the fever left her: and she got up and attended to them
: And that evening, they brought many of the possessed to him; and he expelled their spirits with a word, and healed all them that were sick
. so to fulfill the prophecy of Isaiah, who said: He will take away our sorrows, and our afflictions he will carry for us
. And when Jesus saw the large crowds all around him, he gave orders to cross to the other shore
. And a scribe came and said to him: Rabbi, I will follow you where ever you go
. Jesus said to him, Foxes have dens, and for the birds of the sky have nests; but the Son of Man has nowhere he may rest his head
. And another of his disciples said to him: Lord, let me first to go and bury my father
. But Jesus said to him: Follow me, and leave the dead to bury their dead
. And when Jesus got into the boat, his disciples sailed with him
: And a great storm arose on the sea, so that the waves were breaking right over into the boat. But Jesus was asleep
! and his disciples came to wake him, and said to him: Lord, save us; we are lost
. Jesus said to them, Why are you afraid, you lacking in faith! Then he got up, and reprimanded the wind and the sea; and all was calm
! And the men were astounded and said, What kind of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey
And when Jesus reached the other shore, in the country of the Gadarenes, there met him two demoniacs, who came out from the tombs, so fierce that no one could pass that way
? And they shouted out: What do you want with us? Jesus, you Son of God. Have you come here to torment us before the time
And at a distance from there was a herd of many pigs feeding
. And the demons pleaded of him, and said: If you cast us out, allow us to go into the herd of pigs
And Jesus said to them, Go then. And they came out, and entered into the pigs; and at that the whole herd ran off a cliff and into the sea, and were drown
. And the swineherds fled, and entered the town, and told all that had happened, and about the demoniacs
. And all the town came out to meet Jesus: and when they saw him, they pleaded with him to leave from their shores

Chapter 9

. And he boarded the boat, and crossed over and came back to his own town

And they brought to him a paralytic, lying on a bed. And Jesus saw their faith, and said to the paralytic: Take courage, my child; your sins are forgiven

. And some of the scribes said in their minds, This man blasphemes

? But Jesus knew their thoughts: and he said to them, Why do you have such evil in your heart

? For, which is the easier, to say, Your sins are forgiven; or to say, Get up and walk
But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins, he said to the paralytic: Get up, pick up your bed, and go off home

And he got up and went to his home.

. And when the crowds saw this, they were struck with awe; and they praised God, who had given such power to men

And as Jesus passed on from there, he saw a man sitting at the customs house, whose name was Matthew. And he said to him, Follow me: and he got up and followed him
. And as they were sitting in a house, many tax collectors and sinners came and sat with Jesus and his disciples
? And when the Pharisees saw it they said to his disciples, Why does your Master eat with tax collectors and sinners
. And as Jesus heard, he said to them: It is not the healthy who have need of a doctor, but the sick
. Go and learn what is meant by: What I want is compassion, not sacrifice! For I did not come to call the virtuous, but the sinful
? Then came to him the disciples of John, and said: Why do we and the Pharisees fast much and your disciples fast not
Jesus said to them: Can the guests of the wedding feast fast as long as the bridegroom is with them? But the days will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them, and then they will fast
. No one sews a piece of new cloth on an old garment; for it may shrink, and tear from that garment, and the tear become greater
And they do not put new wine into old wineskins; lest the wineskins burst, and the wine run out, and the wineskins are ruined. But they put new wine into new wineskins and they are both preserved
And while he was talking with them a certain official came over near, bowed to him, and said: My daughter is already dead, but come lay your hand upon her, and she will live
. And Jesus rose up, and his disciples, and they followed him
: And behold, a woman whose blood had hemorrhaged for twelve years, came up behind him, and touched the edge of his clothes
. or she had said in her mind, If I but touch his clothes I will be cured
. And Jesus turned himself, looked at her, and said to her: Be brave, my daughter; your faith has given you Life. And the woman was cured from that moment
. And Jesus came to the house of the official: and he saw there lamenters, and crowds making a commotion
. And he said to them: Leave, for the girl is not dead, but sleeps. And they laughed at him
. And when he had removed the people, he went inside, and took her by the hand, and the girl stood up
. And the news of this spread all thru that land
! And when Jesus had passed from there, two blind men followed after him, and said: Have mercy on us, Son of David
And when he had entered a house, those blind men approached him, and Jesus said to them: Do you believe that I can do this ? They said to him, Yes, Lord
. Then he touched their eyes, and said: As you have believed, so will it be for you
. And with that their eyes were opened. And Jesus ordered them and said: See that no one knows
. But they went out and spread the news of it in all that land
. And as Jesus left, they brought to him a dumb man in whom was a demon
! And when the demon had gone out, the dumb man spoke. And the crowds were amazed, and said: Nothing like this has ever been seen in Israel
. But the Pharisees said: It is by the Prince of demons, that he expels demons
And Jesus traveled over all the towns and the villages, and he taught in their congregations, and preached the Gospel of the Realm, and healed all kinds of diseases and sicknesses
. And when Jesus looked on the crowds, he pitied them, because they were harassed and dejected, like sheep without a shepherd
. And he said to his disciples, The harvest is large, but the laborers few
. Ask, therefore, of the Lord of the harvest to send laborers to his harvest

Chapter 10

. And he summoned his twelve disciples and gave them authority to expel unclean spirits, and to heal every kind of sickness and disease

And the names of the twelve Apostles are these: The first of them, Simon who is called Kephas, and Andrew his brother; and James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother

; and Philip, and Bartholomew, and Thomas, and Matthew the tax collector; and James the son of Alpheus, and Lebbeus who was called Thaddeus

. and Simon the Zealot, and Judas Iscariot, he who betrayed him

These twelve Jesus sent forth: and he instructed them and said: Do not visit the Gentiles and do not enter the towns of the Samaritans

. Go instead after the lost sheep of the house of Israel

. And as you go, preach and say: The Realm of Heaven is near

. Cure the sick, heal the leprous. raise the dead, and expel demons. As freely as you have received, give so, freely

; Provide not gold, nor silver, nor copper in your wallets
. nor a satchel for the journey: neither two coats, nor shoes, nor a staff. For the laborer is worthy of his keep
. And into whatever town or village you enter, ask who in it is worthy; and there stay until you leave
. And when you enter a house, bless the household
. And if the house be worthy, your peace will come upon it; but if it be not worthy, your peace will return upon yourselves
And whoever will not receive you, nor hear your sermons, when you leave from that house or that town, shake off the dust from your feet
. Truly I say to you, that it will be better for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah on the day of judgment, rather than be that town
. Behold, I send you forth as sheep among wolves. Therefore be as cunning as serpents, and harmless as doves
. And beware of men; for they will hand you over to the courts, and will scourge you in their congregations
. And they will bring you before governors and kings, on my account, for a testimony to them and to the Gentiles
. And when they hand you over, be not worried how or what you will speak; for it will be given you in that moment what to say
. For it is not you that speaks, but the spirit of your Father speaking within you
. And brother will hand over his brother to death, and a father his son; and children will rise up against parents, and cause them to die
. And you will be hated by every one, on account of my name. But he that will endure to the end, will have Life
And when they persecute you in one town, take refuge to another: for truly I say to you, You will not have covered all the towns of the house of Israel before the Son of Man comes
. No disciple is better than his teacher; nor a servant, than his master
It is enough for the disciple, that he be as his teacher; and the servant, as his master. If they call the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more the children of his family
. Therefore be not afraid of them; for there is nothing concealed, that will not be revealed; nor hidden, that will not become known
. Whatever I say to you in darkness, speak in the light; and what you have heard in private, proclaim on the housetops
And do not fear those that deprive the body of life, but cannot destroy the soul; but fear Him who can destroy both soul and body in hell
. Are not two sparrows sold for next to nothing ? Yet not one of them falls to the ground without your Father's consent
. As for you, every hair on your head have been counted
. Therefore be not afraid: you are more important than a flock of sparrows
. Whoever will acknowledge me before men, I will acknowledge before my Father who is in Heaven
. But whoever will disowns me before men, him will I also disown before my Father who is in Heaven
. Think not that I have come to bring peace on the earth: I have not come to bring peace, but a *sword [*division]
. For I have come to set a man at odds with his father, and a daughter at odds with her mother, and a daughter-in-law at odds with her mother-in-law
. And a man's opponents will be the members of his household
: He that loves father or mother more than me, is not worthy of me: and he that loves son or daughter more than me, is not worthy of me
. and he that does not take up his cross and follow after me, is not worthy of me
. He that secures his life, will lose it: and he that loses his life on my account, will secure it
. He that welcomes you, welcomes me: and he that welcomes me, welcomes him that sent me
He that welcomes a prophet in the name of a prophet, will receive a prophet's reward: and he that welcomes a holy man in the name of a holy man, will receive a holy man's reward
And whoever will give one of these lowly ones a cup of cold water to drink, because he is a disciple, truly I say to you, he will not want for his reward

Chapter 11

. And when Jesus had finished teaching his twelve disciples, he left there to teach and to preach in their towns

, Now when John, in prison, heard of the works of Messiah, he sent a message by way of his disciples

? and said to him: Are you he that is to come, or are we to look for another

: Jesus answered, and said to them: Go, tell John of what you hear and see

: the blind see, and the lame walk, and the leprous are healed, and the deaf hear, and the dead are raised up, and the poor hear of good news

. and happy is he, who will not be tripped by me
? And when they set off, Jesus began to say to the crowds about John: What did you go into the desert to see ? A reed that swayed in the wind

And if not; what did you go out to see? A man clothed in fine robes ?  they that are clothed in finery are in the palaces

. And if not, what did you go out to see ? A prophet ? Yes, say I to you, and more than a prophet
. For it is written this about him: Behold, I send my messenger ahead of you, to prepare your way before you
. Truly I say to you, among those born of women, there has not arisen any greater than John the Baptist, yet the least one in the Realm of Heaven is greater than he
. And from the days of John the Baptist, until now, the Realm of Heaven has suffered violence, and the violent take it by force
. For all the prophets and the law spoke prophetically, until the time of John
. And, if you are prepared to accept it, that this is he who was to come
! He that has ears to hear, let him hear
, But to what will I compare this breed ? It is like to children, that sit in the marketplace and call to their playmates
. and say: We have sung to you, but you did not dance: we have sang a dirge to you, but you did not lament
. For John came, not eating and not drinking; and they said, He is mad
The Son of Man came, eating and drinking, and they say: Behold, a gluttonous man, and a drunkard, and a friend of tax collectors and sinners. But wisdom is proven by her works
Then Jesus began to reproach the towns in which his many miracles were performed, yet they did not reform
And he said: Woe to you, Chorazin ! Woe to you, Bethsaida ! For if the miracles done in you, had been done in Tyre and Sidon, doubtless, they would long ago have reformed in sackcloth and ashes
. But I say to you, It will be easier for Tyre and Sidon, in the day of judgment, rather than for you
And you, Capernaum, which has been exalted to the skies, will go down to the realm of death.  For if those miracles which were done in you, had been done in Sodom, it would be standing to this day
. But I assure you, It will go easier for the land of Sodom on the day of judgment, than for you
At that time Jesus answered and said: I praise you, O my Father, Lord of Heaven and earth, that you have hid these things from the learned and clever, and have revealed them to merest children
. Yes, my Father, for so it seemed good to you
Every thing has been given over to me by my Father. And no one knows the Son but the Father, and no one knows the Father, but the Son, and anyone whom the Son wishes to reveal him
. Come unto me, all you weary and overburdened, and I will give you rest
: Take my yoke upon you; and learn from me, that I am gentle and humble of heart, and you will find rest for your souls
. for my yoke is easy, and my burden is light

Chapter 12

. At that time Jesus, on the Sabbath, walked in the fields, and his disciples were hungry, and began to pick off the heads of grain and to eat

And when the Pharisees saw them, they said to him: See; your disciples are doing that which it is forbidden to do on the Sabbath

? But he said to them, Have you not read what David did when he was hungry, and they that were with him

How he went to the house of God, and ate the bread of the Lord's table; which it was forbidden for him to eat, nor for them that were with him, but solely for the priests

? Or have you not read in the law, how that the priests on temple duty break the Sabbath rest, and are without guilt

. But I say to you, that something greater than the temple is here

. And if you had known what is meant by, I desire mercy, and not sacrifice; you would not have condemned the innocent men

. For the Son of Man is indeed Lord of the Sabbath

. And Jesus left there, and came to their congregation
? And a man was there whose hand was withered. And they questioned him that they might accuse him and said, Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath
? And he said to them, What man among you is there, who, if he has a sheep, and it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, does not get hold of it and lift it out
. Now, how more precious a human being is than a sheep ! Surely it is lawful to do what is good on the Sabbath
. Then said he to the man, Stretch forth your hand. And he stretched out his hand; and it was restored like the other
. And the Pharisees went outside and plotted against him, that they might do away with him
. But Jesus was aware, and he withdrew from there. And great crowds followed him, and he cured them all
: And he ordered them not to make public what he had done
: that what was said as spoken by the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled
Behold my servant, in whom I have chosen; my beloved, in whom my soul delights. I will endow him with my spirit; and he will proclaim true faith to the nations
. He will not brawl, nor shout, nor will any one hear his voice in the streets
. The bent reed he will not break; and the flickering lamp he will not put out; until he has led truth to victory
. And in his name the nations will trust
. Then they brought to him a demoniac that was dumb and blind, and he healed him, so that the dumb and blind man both spoke and saw
? And all the crowd were amazed, and said: Can this be the son of David
. But when the Pharisees heard it, they said: This man does not expel demons, except by with Beelzebub the prince of demons
And Jesus, aware their thoughts, said to them: Every kingdom that is torn against itself, will fall; and every household or town which is split apart, will not last
? Now if Satan expels Satan, he himself is torn apart; how then does his dominion last
. And if I by Beelzebub expels demons, by whom do your children expel them ? Let them be your judges
. But if I by the Spirit of God expel demons, the Realm of God has overtaken you
Or how can one enter a strong man's house and plunder his goods, unless he first ties up the strong man? and then he may plunder his house
. He that is not with me, is against me; and he that gathers not with me so scatters
Therefore I say to you, that all sins and blasphemies of men will be forgiven; except the blasphemy against the Spirit, which men will not be forgiven of
And whoever will speak a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him: but whoever will speak against the Holy Spirit, it will not for him be forgiven; not in this world, and not in the world to come
. Either make the tree good, and its fruits good; or make the tree rotten, and its fruits rotten: for a tree is known by its fruits
. Brood of vipers, how can you who are evil, speak good things ? For out of what fills the heart the mouth speaks
. A good man out of good stores brings forth good, and a evil man out of evil stores brings forth evil
. For I say to you, That for every thoughtless word that men speak, they will be held accountable for it on the day of judgment
. For by your words you will be acquitted; and by your words you will be condemned
. Then answered some of the scribes and of the Pharisees, and said to him: Teacher, we wish to see a sign from you
But he replied and said to them: An evil and unfaithful generation demands a sign: but a sign will not be given to it, but that of the sign of Jonah the prophet
For as Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights; so will the Son of man be in the core of the earth three days and three nights
The people of Nineveh will stand up in the judgment toward this generation, and will condemn it: for they reformed at the preaching of Jonah; and a greater than Jonah is here
The queen of the south will stand up in the judgment toward this generation, and will condemn it: for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and a superior to Solomon is here
. And when an unclean spirit goes out of a man, it wanders in desolate places, and seeks rest and finds not
Then it says: I will go back to my dwelling from which I came out. And it goes and finds it unoccupied, swept clean, and put in order
So it goes off and brings with it seven other spirits, worse than itself, and they enter and settle in it; and in the end that man is worse off than he began. So will it be with this evil generation
. And while he addressed the crowds, his mother and his brothers appeared and stood outside to speak with him
. And someone said to him: your mother and your brothers stand outside and want to speak with you
? But he replied, and said to him that told him: Who is my mother ? and who are my brothers
! And he stretched forth his hand towards his disciples, and said: Behold my mother, and behold my brothers
. For every one that does the will of my Heavenly Father, that person is my brother, and my sister, and my mother

Chapter 13

. And on that same day Jesus left out of the house, and sat by the shore of the sea

. And great crowds gathered around him, so that he boarded and seated himself in a boat, and all the crowd stood on the shore of the sea

. An he told them many things by parable. And he said, Behold, a farmer went forth to sow

. And as he sowed, some seed fell upon the side of a path: and a bird came and ate it

. And some fell upon rock, so that it had not much soil: and it sprouted, because there was no depth to the earth

. But when the sun was up it wilted. And, because it had few roots, it dried up

. And some fell among thorns: and the thorns shot up, and choked it

. And some fell on good ground; and bore fruits, some a hundredfold, some sixty-fold, and some thirty-fold

. He that has ears to hear, let him hear
? And his disciples came and said to him, Why do you address them in parables
And he answered, and said to them: Because, to you is given knowledge of the mysteries of the Realm of Heaven, but to others it is not
. For to him that has, he will be given; and he will abound: but from him that has not, even what he has will be taken from him
. For this reason I address them in parables, because they see and do not see, and they hear and do not hear, nor understand
And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah, who said: By hearing you will hear, and will not understand; and by seeing you see, and will not know
For the heart of this people has grown sluggish, and with their ears they have scarcely heard, and their eyes they have closed; lest they should see with their eyes, and should hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should turn back; and I should heal them
. But blest are your eyes, for they see; and your ears, for they hear
For truly I say to you, That many prophets and saints longed to see what you see, and did not see it; and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it
. But hear the parable of the seed
Every one that hears the word of the Realm, and does not understands it, the evil one comes and steals away the seed sowed in his heart: this is what was sowed by the side of the path
. And that which was sowed on the rock, is he that hears the message, and at once receives it with joy
. Yet he who has few roots to him, but lasts for short time, and when there is trouble or harassment on account of the message, he soon falls
And that which was sowed among thorns, is he that hears the message; and anxiety of this world and the lure of wealth, choke off the message; and he is without yield
But that which was sowed on good ground, is he that hears my message and understands, bears fruits, and yields, some a hundredfold, some sixty-fold, and some thirty-fold
. Another parable he presented to them, and said: The Realm of Heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field
. And while people were asleep, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat, and went away
. And when the crop came up and yielded, then appeared also the weeds
And the servants of the householder came, and said to him, Master, did you not sow good seed in your field? From where are the weeds in it
? And he said to them, An enemy has done this. The servants said to him, Is it your wish that we go and pull them out
. And he said to them, For, while you pull out the weeds, you also pull up the wheat with them
Let them both grow together until the harvest; and at the time of harvest, I will say to the reapers, Collect out the weeds first, and tie them in bundles to be burned; but the wheat you are gather into my granary
Another parable proposed he to them, and said: The Realm of Heaven is like to a grain of mustard seed, which a man took and sowed in his field
And this is the smallest of all seeds; but when it is grown, it is larger than all the herbs, and becomes a tree, so that a bird of the sky may come and nest in its branches
Another parable he presented to them, The Realm of Heaven is like the leaven, which a woman took and kneaded into three measures of meal, until all of it rose
. All these things Jesus addressed to the crowd in parables; and without parables he did not address them
So that which was spoken by the prophet might be fulfilled, who said: I will open my mouth in parables; I will tell things hidden from before the creation of the world
Then Jesus sent away the crowds, and went into the house. And his disciples came, and said to him: Explain to us the parable of the weeds and the field
. And he answered, and said to them: He that sows the good seed, is the Son of God
. And the field is the world. And the good seed are the children of the Realm; but the weeds are the children of the evil One
. The enemy that sowed them, is Satan. The harvest is the end of the world: and the reapers are the angels
. As therefore the weeds are gathered and burned in the fire; so will it be in the end of the world
; The Son of Man will send forth his angels, and they will gather out of his Realm all who draw others to apostasy, and all the evildoers
. and will throw them into a fiery furnace. There will be wailing and grinding of teeth
. Then will the saintly shine as the sun, in the Realm of their Father. He that has ears to hear, let him hear
Again, the Realm of Heaven is like a treasure that is hid in a field; which when a man finds it he hides, and, from his joy, he goes and sells all that he has, and buys that field
: Again, the Realm of Heaven is like a merchant's search for fine pearls
. and when he found one pearl of great value, he went and sold all that he had, and bought it
. Again, the Realm of Heaven is like a dragnet, which was cast into the sea, and collected fish of every kind
And when it was full, they drew it to the shores of the sea; and they sat down and sorted thru: and the good they put into containers, and the useless they threw away
; So will it be in the end of the world. The angels will go forth, and will separate the wicked from among the just
. and will cast them into a fiery furnace. There will be wailing and grinding of teeth
. Jesus said to them: Have you understood all these things? They say to him: Yes, Lord
He said to them: Therefore every scribe who is learned in the Realm of Heaven, is like a man who is master of a house, who brings forth from his storeroom both the new and the old
. And it was so, that when Jesus had finished these parables, he moved on from there
And he went into his own town. And he taught them in their congregations, in such manner that they wondered, and said: Where has he gotten this wisdom and these miracles
? Is this man not the carpenter's son ? Is his mother not called Mary, and his brothers James and Joses and Simon and Judas
? And all his sisters, are they not with us ? Where then has this man gotten all these things
. And they would not accept him. But Jesus said to them: No prophet is without honor, except in his own town and in his own house
. And he did not perform many miracles there, because of their lack of faith

Chapter 14

: And at that time Herod the Tetrarch heard about the reputation of Jesus

and he said to his court: This is John the Baptist: he has risen from the grave: that is why miraculous powers are at work in him

. Now this Herod had arrested John, and chained him and put him in prison; because of Herodias, the wife of his brother Philip

. For John had said to him: It is unlawful for you to have her

. And he had wanted to kill him; but he was afraid of the people, seeing as they regarded him as a prophet

But during Herod's birthday festival, the daughter of Herodias danced before the company; and she delighted Herod

. Therefore he promised her on oath, that he would give her anything she might ask

. And she, as she had been prompted by her mother, said: Give me the head of John the Baptist, here, on a dish

. And it distressed the king: but because of the oath, and the company, he ordered it to be given her
. And he sent and had John beheaded in the prison
. And the head was brought in a dish and given to the girl; and she took it to her mother
. And his disciples came and took away the body, and buried it; and they went off to tell Jesus
And when Jesus heard of it, he withdrew by boat to a deserted place alone. And when the crowds heard of that, they followed him by foot from the towns
. And when Jesus stepped ashore, he saw great crowds; and he had compassion on them, and healed their sick
And when evening came, his disciples went to him, and said to him: This is a deserted place, and no time is left; send away the people so they may go to the villages, and buy themselves food
. But he said to them: It is not needed for them to go; give them something to eat yourselves
. And they said to him: All we have here is only five loaves and two fish
. Jesus said to them: Bring them here to me
And he ordered the crowds to sit on the ground: and he took the five loaves and two fish, and he looked to Heaven, and blessed, and broke the bread, and gave that to his disciples who gave that to the crowds
. And they all ate, and were satisfied: and they took up the scraps, twelve baskets full
. And the men who had eaten were five thousand, along with the women and children
. And immediately he made his disciples get into a boat, and to go ahead of him to the other side, while he sent away the crowds
. After he had sent the crowds away, he went up a mountain alone to pray. And evening came, he was there alone
. And while the boat was far off from land, it was tossed about by the waves; for the wind was against to it
. And in the fourth watch of the night, Jesus came toward them, walking upon the waters
. And his disciples saw him as he walked upon the waters, and they were terrified: It is a ghost, they said, and they cried out in fear
. But Jesus at once spoke to them, and said: Be brave ! It is I ! Do not be afraid
. Kephas answered, and said to him: Lord, if it be you, have me come to you across the waters
. And Jesus said to him, Come. And Kephas got out of the boat, and started to walk to Jesus across the water
! But when he felt the force of the wind, he was afraid, and began to sink. And he raised his voice, and said: Lord, save me
! And at once our Lord reached out his hand, and held him, and said to him: Man of little faith, why did you doubt
. And as they got into the boat, the wind died down
! And those in the boat bowed down to him, and said: Truly you are the Son of God
. And they rowed on, and came to the land of Gennesaret
And when the local people recognized him they spread the news to all the villages around them; and they brought all that were very sick to him
. and they begged of him that they might touch just the fringe of his cloak. And those who touched it were healed
